1 in 3 Britons has fallen into poverty
The Times recently reported that almost 1 in 3 Britons has fallen into poverty in recent years.
The Times reports that ‘Between 2012 and 2015, 14.6 per cent of people in the UK experienced one year of poverty, 7.1 per cent two, 4.1 per cent three and 4.4 per cent four — a total of 30.2 per cent falling into poverty at some point over the four-year period, the Office for National Statistics said.’
Strikingly, the UK was ranked 13th out of 28 EU states for relative poverty in 2015 with 16.7% below the poverty line. However, the UK did perform well in terms of persistent poverty, ranking 24th.
