Scotland to be consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

This Sunday, 3rd September the Bishops of Scotland will consecrate the nation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The consecration will take place at the Marian shrine Carfin Grotto, near Motherwell, and the Bishop of Paisley, John Keenan, has already been encouraging the faithful to participate in forty days of spiritual preparation, as well as being invited to be present for the consecration itself. The Bishop said that the consecration “depends on fervent national preparation” and encouraged everyone to spread the word.

This is a unique opportunity to devote ourselves to the Immaculate Heart of Mary our Mother, and to entrust Scotland to her loving heart. We ask for her intercession to help the Church in Scotland so that she may lovingly preach the Good News to all people and that our country will be energised with a renewed desire to seek the Truth.

We also pray for our elected representatives and all of those who serve Parliament and Government, that they too will benefit from this act of consecration and will play their part in building a true civilisation of love: a place where all people are valued; a place where the poorest, the lonely and the marginalised are not forgotten; a place where the right to life of an unborn child isn’t threatened but whose life and future is valued by a loving nation; a place where people are free to practise their faith; a place where marriage and the new life it brings is cherished and the family is recognised as the basic cell and bedrock of society.

We pray for Scotland.
