Bishop Frank Dougan Congratulated on 25 Years of Priestly Ministry
Bishop Frank Dougan has been congratulated on reaching 25 years of priestly ministry, following a motion lodged in the Scottish Parliament by Clare Adamson MSP.
The motion recognises Bishop Dougan’s milestone anniversary on 27 June 2026 and highlights his long record of service across Scotland and beyond. A former pupil of St Aidan’s High School, he has served in a range of pastoral and leadership roles since his ordination to the priesthood in 2001.
Over the past 25 years, Bishop Dougan has ministered in several communities, including as Assistant Priest at Our Lady and St Anne’s in Hamilton, Vice Rector of the Pontifical Scots College in Rome, Parish Priest of St Mark’s and St Anthony’s in Rutherglen, and later at Our Lady of Lourdes in East Kilbride.
His work has been marked by dedication to parish life, formation, and support for the communities he has served throughout his priestly ministry.
In December 2023, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Dougan as Bishop of Galloway. He was ordained to the episcopate on 9 March 2024 at St Peter-in-Chains Church, before continuing his ministry in the Diocese of Galloway.
The Scottish Parliament motion commends Bishop Dougan’s dedicated service to the Church and to the many communities he has supported throughout his vocation.
Clare Adamson’s motion also extends best wishes to Bishop Dougan for continued health, happiness and every blessing in the years ahead.
